Softonic review

Your top web pages in one easy click

If you're looking for an alternative way of looking at your most visited websites, you might want to give Auto Dial a try. This Firefox add-on displays your top web pages when you open a new tab either manually or by hitting [Ctrl-T]. The new tab that opens is a simple affair - your top links accompanied by their thumbnail.

Auto Dial allows you to access the links by clicking (left or right), which will open the link in the same tab, or by middle-clicking if your mouse allows it. This new feature opens up the link in a new tab, allowing you to open multiple links in one go. You can remove links from the Auto Dial page by clicking the red cross in the top left corner. When you do, a new one will take its place.

Although the middle button option is a major improvement on previous versions, Auto Dial still seems to be seriously lacking in functions. There are absolutely no configuration options, and you can't limit the number of links that appear on the add-on's home page. By installing Auto Dial, it automatically takes over the new tab function, meaning you can no longer open a blank one. Finally, the fact that both left and right-click open the links is irritating if you are used to using the right mouse button for context menus. The final verdict? Unfortunately, Auto Dial offered me no options that would compensate its major lack of functionality.

Auto Dial lacks options and won't be joining my list of favorites any time soon.
